Take a second to read more about the surprisingly interesting and inviting township of Monument, Colorado.

Monument History

The area was first settled in the 1860s with the town of Monument being incorporated in 1879. The surrounding areas of the Tri-Lake region were also being established during these years as well. Monument was first named "Henry Station" after Henry Limbach, one of the early settlers and the first mayor. The first settlers and developers of the area took notice of the surrounding wonder of the land and made that one of the main focus points about living in Monument and the Tri-Lakes area. That natural beauty and splendor can be yours in this sleepy mountain town and that sentiment began to spread to others across Colorado and the nation as well. The entire Tri-Lakes area has always been a getaway for people from the eastern United States; Monument was included in that tourism boom as well. During its early days, the streets of Monument were teeming with life during the summer months, a tradition that still continues to this day. Historic hotels and buildings still line the streets and still fill to capacity in the summer months, much like the used to and will continue to do.

Monument Parks & Recreation

Like mentioned before, Monument citizens prides themselves on the lands that they call home and to show their appreciation as well, the town of Monument has erected several city parks that cherish and protect those same lands. The several cities comprising the Tri-Lakes area and Monument have come together to sponsor the area’s premier recreational escape, the Tri-Lake Parks. This park includes Centennial Park, Glen Park and the Palmer Lake Regional Recreation Area. Throughout Monument there are a number of other parks as well, but none of them compare to the community effort that is the Tri-Lakes Parks Project. This is one of the first places you should bring any new visitor to Monument or the Tri-Lakes region.
